Pre-Conference Tour
Wednesday 14th July 2010 to Sunday 18th July 2010
Before the start of the WABCG10 conference, a Pre-Conference Tour will be running from 14 July 2010 to 18 July 2010. This five day tour around England is specifically tailored to WABCG10 delegates and will provide a glimpse of the UK's best natural attractions as well as industry-based visits.
Pre-Conference Tour Agenda
Wednesday, 14 July – We depart Cambridge via Coach at 9.00am from the Crowne Plaza, Cambridge and Royal Cambridge Hotels, travelling south-west to the World Heritage City of Bath for lunch and sightseeing. A Roman city, Bath still boasts the original Roman baths and remains.
Home to historic writers, such as Jane Austin, and the artist Gainsborough, Bath is a ‘must see’ for visitors to the UK.
After lunch, we continue south west to Exeter, the county town of Devon. Exeter was also the most south-westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain. Its cathedral was founded in 1005.
Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at The Bedford Hotel, Tavisock.
Thursday, 15 July – After breakfast, we depart for The Eden Project at St Austell in Cornwall.
Described by The New York Times as “A miracle” and “Out of this world” by The Daily Telegraph, The Eden Project is an unforgettable experience in a breathtaking location. It is a global garden with world famous architecture. In short, plenty to do and lots to experience! The evening is spent in Exeter. Dinner and accommodation included.
Friday, 16 July – Travelling via Salisbury, we visit Britain’s Best Historic Site and one of the seven wonders of the world, Stonehenge. Erected between 3,000 BC and 1,600 BC, the monument is said to draw on three different cultures. Lunch will be in Salisbury.
From there, we continue on to Windsor, which is home to one of the oldest and largest occupied castles in the world and the Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Here you will enjoy a late afternoon visit with time to take in the sights and stroll through the historic streets. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be at The Ramada Hotel, Farnham.
Saturday, 17 July – After breakfast, we travel to Norfolk for a Farm Visit to Stody Estate organised by the NFU. Stody comprises 1,700 hectares (4,200 acres) set in beautiful North Norfolk with the River Glaven running through its heart. The visit will also include lunch at the Hunny Bell Inn & Restaurant, located on the estate.
We then travel to Norwich in time for dinner and a final night’s accommodation at The Holiday Inn. There is also the possibility in the evening to visit the famous landmark of Norwich Cathedral, which dominates the Norwich skyline. Norwich Cathedral was one of the great buildings of its time. When construction finished in 1145, it was amongst the largest major churches in Europe and combined a cathedral with a Benedictine priory.
Sunday 18 July – After breakfast, we will enjoy a leisurely morning cruise along the Norfolk Broads, the UK’s largest nationally protected wetland and an important wildlife habitat. After a short stop in the town of Wroxham, we return to Cambridge by late afternoon to complete the tour and to allow delegates to settle in before the start of the conference.
The itinerary includes all travel, four nights’ accommodation on a Full English Breakfast and Dinner Menu (including a minimum of three courses including tea & coffee). Admission charges to The Eden Project & Broads Cruise Charter also are included in the price.
The cost is £390.00 per person on a shared room basis or £480.00 per person based on single occupancy.*
WABCG10 Conference Delegate Registration will take place in the Crowne Plaza, Cambridge and Royal Cambridge Hotel between 16:00 and 19:00 on Sunday and again at the West Road Concert Hall on Monday 19th from 08:00 hours.
