Innovation and Inspiration on the agenda at World Sugar Conference
The 2010 World Association of Beet and Cane Growers Conference will be an inspirational and innovative event that will provide much food for thought for leaders and stakeholders in the sugar sector around the world, NFU Sugar chairman William Martin said.
Speaking at a drinks reception to launch the event and conference which takes place in Cambridge from July 19 to 22 and is hosted by the NFU, Mr Martin added that there would be plenty to inspire and provoke discussion both on the speaker programme and in the associated visits and technical tours.
Mr Martin said: “The NFU is delighted to be hosting this prestigious event and especially pleased to have British Sugar on board as a key sponsor. Our aim is to create a programme of events that is inspirational, thought provoking and innovative featuring highly qualified speakers from around the world. Discussion and networking will be an important part of this global event.
“To complement the conference, we are excited to have an online sugar community for WABCG10 provided by Farmers Weekly Interactive. This will provide information, a conference blog from me to highlight issues for debate, and, importantly, also provides opportunities for additional networking in the lead up, during, and after the four-day conference.”
Delegates can register to attend the conference on the WABCG10 website from Friday November 27 as well as find out all the latest information about the conference programme.

2. The World Association of Beet and Cane Growers is a special body of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) which was founded in 1946 with the NFU as one of the original member organisations, and provides the only forum where beet and cane growers discuss common interests, issues and create solutions. It has 31 members across 31 countries and represents more than 40 per cent of the world’s sugar production and around 70 per cent of the sugar produced by family farmers.
3. The WABCG Conference is held every three years and hosted by one of the members. This year’s conference will include various instructive and entertainment events. WABCG is an important association for its membership and the industry and strives to ensure that the conference is delivered at the minimum cost to delegates.
4. Farmers Weekly Interactive (FWi) is providing an online community at www.fwi.co.uk/wabcg which will go live shortly. The website will be a community focused site providing a channel for delegates and stakeholders across the UK, Europe and the rest of the sugar producing world, to share in the conference activities.
